Lyrics
I HOPE (DADDY MAGIC)
Words and Music by James Keith Norman
VERSE #1:
Last week, my baby daughter
came crying to me and said,
“Daddy, my dolly broke.
I can’t find her head.”
And there was:
“I cut my knee
climbing a tree.”
“My favorite show’s not on TV.”
“The dog got into the mud again
and then he shook it all over me.”
Each time, I put my arms around her
using daddy magic to make things better,
and I’m thinking…
CHORUS:
I hope this is the worst in life you ever face.
I pray the years are kind,
and you live in God’s grace.
I know right now this seems like a tragedy
but I hope this is the worst in life you ever see.
VERSE #2:
The last few days, my little boy
has come to me upset.
One time because a bus
ran over his toy Corvette.
And there was:
“I stubbed my toe.”
And “some old crow
flew off with my GI Joe.”
And “I asked mommy if I could lick a spider.
and she said no, no, no.”
Each time, I put my arms around him
using daddy magic to make him grin,
and I’m thinking…
CHORUS:
I hope this is the worst in life you ever face.
I pray the years are kind,
and you live in God’s grace.
I know right now this seems like a tragedy
but I hope this is the worst in life you ever see.
BRIDGE:
And if things ever get harder for you
as the years go rolling by,
you can still depend upon me.
I’ll be there by your side.
But…
CHORUS:
I hope this is the worst in life you ever face.
I pray the years are kind,
and you live in God’s grace.
I know right now this seems like a tragedy
but I hope this is the worst in life you ever see.
