JAZZ INFUSIONS FOR THE CREATIVE SOUL
This is James's first jazz album. Consisting of six cuts, Jazz Infusions for the Creative Soul takes an emotional, minimalist approach to composition and arrangement. The result is an engulfing voyage, especially for those who see the world through creative eyes and sensibilities.
In addition, each cut tells a story.
"Dusk and Beyond" takes you from the last glimmers of day into the evening, leading to the comfort of night.
James says that "Fogg in the Park" reminds him of wispy shrouds of light precipitation. But also, what - or who - is "Fogg"? Perhaps a sax player in the park, inviting the night to accompany them?
In New York City, there is a popular, elevated, public park that stretches 1.45 miles along a historic, abandoned freight rail line on Manhattan's West Side. It features gardens, art, unrivalled city views and nature. Imagine what it must be like to walk "On the High Line" as you listen to this piece.
"It's That One" was inspired by a trip James took to San Francisco and a visit to that city's SF Jazz centre. Upon leaving that venue, he could hear in his imagination an upright bass conversing with a sax. When he returned home, he immediately captured it in his studio.
"Take the Bridge Tonight" is a musical suggestion to embark on a way home by a different-than-usual route. Literal? Symbolic? You decide.
And "Angel's Call" is a last call uttered by, well, what do you envision?
