About the Music

UNDERSCORE

Underscore is a four-cut EP recorded primarily in Nashville. But this is not a country album. It is a neoclassical-style collection, some of which is inspired by Irish music.

"Siobhan's Theme" evokes images of a woman on a hilltop surveying her world below. You can almost share in her pride of home and country.

"Aibreann's Return" (Aibreann is the Irish word for Spring) musically describes the moving on from a harsh winter and into the beauty and renewal of the next season.

James Keith Norman was inspired to compose "Lake Dalrymple Morning" early one summer day as the sun was beginning to rise and cast its rays on the water of this Ontario lake.

"Weary Carousel" is the musical dramatization of a carousel that has entertained many generations. It was written by James after he came across a vintage carousel coming to rest after a final session in late summer several years ago in Port Dalhousie, Ontario.

About the Cover:

A composer surrounded by his scores of music, gently laid out all around him in his living room. Yes, that is James Keith Norman seated with his music on his carpet. And if you look carefully on the score nearest the title Underscore, you can see the original title of "Lake Dalrymple Morning". The piece was inspired by a visit to Lake Dalrymple, Ontario, but the original title tells you what James was doing there.
